1. Pilot Courses

1.1. Course in Italy
Actually a group of migrant women is attending the PreQual pilot course in Italy which will last until March 5th. The course is organised by the Italian partner CESV and carried out in close cooperation with the association ADBI. The course trainers and students are supported throughout all the course period by a pedagogical expert who will assure the application and experimentation of the Paulo Freire methodology. The course has been re-modulated in consideration of the suggestion and demand coming from the women themselves, interviewed during a common group discussion, several individual dialogs, and following recommendations of experts from the health and care field.
Contents of the curriculum are the same as defined within the international frame curriculum and already tested in Austria and Germany. So migrant women will acquire knowledge and competencies on subject related to the health and care practices of assistance at home and at institutes and hospitals, moreover technical language, First Aid, multicultural approach to care and assistance, institutional and low scenarios and organization. Results of the Self-Evaluation are continuously reported to secure their consideration and inclusion in the curriculum and handbook.
“The women have shown up a high motivation to talk, to narrate each other and to deal with the subjects. The innovation of the course concerning the methodology of Paulo Freire and the protagonism as well the active involvement during the entire course was received with grate enthusiasm. The participants immediately fully accepted the methodology by taking up the essential of its spirit. Already at the first meeting issues dealing with migration were highlighted and requested by the participants to be treated during the course within the group. They chose the issues: racism, discrimination and relations within the host-country.” (cit. trainer of ADBI)
1.2. Follow up Course in Austria
maiz' extensive networking activities have resulted in the approval of funding for a follow-up PreQual course in 2007. A great number of migrant women is interested in attending this course in order to enter the occupational field of the health and care sector in Austria.
